How your roof lantern is made and fitted

Every Tuck's Wood roof lantern is built to order, whether it's one of our standard models or a bespoke design. Because we design, make and install everything ourselves, you deal with the same team from your first enquiry to the day your lantern goes in.

Here's what to expect at each stage.

01

Your enquiry

Get in touch by phone, email or our quote form. Tell us the internal size of your opening and send any photos, sketches or architect's drawings you have.

TO CONFIRM: who picks up enquiries, and how quickly do you usually respond?
02

Consultation and design

We talk through what you need: size, style, glazing, colour, vents and any extras. We then prepare dimensioned scale drawings for your project, so you can see exactly what you're getting before anything is made.

03

Quotation and order

You receive a written quotation for supply only, or supply and installation. Once you're happy, the order is confirmed and payments are made in stages, as set out on the quotation.

TO CONFIRM: deposit amount and payment stages; whether site surveys are ever needed.
04

Hand-built in Norfolk

Your lantern typically takes around eight weeks to make. We use FSC-certified sapele hardwood, with accoya for mouldings. Our glass comes from British suppliers, and we fabricate and weld the aluminium cappings in-house. One skilled craftsperson is responsible for each lantern, which is fully assembled in our workshop, then taken apart, numbered and painted. We often send customers photographs during construction.

TO CONFIRM: anything else ordered in from outside (vents, controllers, blinds), and where from.
05

Packing and delivery

Every component is individually wrapped and packed in our own wooden transport crates. The lantern travels as a kit of parts, with detailed assembly instructions and all the screws, bolts and sealant needed. We deliver across the UK and can crate lanterns for shipping worldwide.

06

Installation

If you choose supply and fit, one of our own experienced installation teams fits your lantern, anywhere in the UK.

TO CONFIRM: typical time on site, and how far ahead installation dates are booked.
07

Aftercare

Installations are covered by our two-year service warranty, with a 10-year warranty on components and five years on glazing units. Keeping gutters and roof outlets clear two or three times a year is all the maintenance most lanterns need.

Before we install: your checklist

A kerb or upstand

A lead-dressed kerb or upstand must be built before we arrive. Its internal dimensions should match the lantern's internal aperture exactly. See our edge details.

A safe working platform

We need a safe internal working platform beneath the opening so our team can work from inside.

A power supply

A power supply on site for our tools, and for any electric vents or lighting being fitted.
