Warranty
Warranties, guarantees and liabilities...
This page covers the full range of roof lanterns manufactured and supplied/installed by Tuck's Wood Joinery Limited, trading as Tuck's Wood Roof Lanterns, of Whissonsett Road, Horningtoft, Norfolk NR20 5DJ, United Kingdom.
1. Two-year inclusive warranty – components & labour
Our service warranty covers re-visiting the installation site to attend to any defects in components supplied and fitted by Tuck's Wood Roof Lanterns and our agents only. It also covers easement that may have occurred on windows and roof vents. Marginal movement due to the swelling or contracting of timber usually manifests itself in the first two or three seasons, but is to be expected and is generally not detrimental to the integrity of the structure.
If the customer asks us to attend to any easement or minor water ingress within two years of the 'active date', then we will return to the site as soon as possible, within our existing installation commitments. In the unlikely event that a serious problem or leak occurs, then we will endeavour to return to site as a matter of urgency.
2. Glazing units warranty
As installers of sealed double- and triple-glazing units we pass-on the manufacturers' materials-only warranties – which typically are for five years. In the unlikely event that a glazing unit fails within the manufacturer's warranty period, the replacement unit will be supplied free of charge. Labour for fitting the replacement unit will be charged after the first two years, in accordance with section 1 above. Toughened safety glazing carries a British Standard kitemark or furniture stamp.
In the event of accidental damage, cracking of laminated panes or shattering of toughened panes – often caused by striking with sharp or heavy objects such as stones thrown up by lawn mowers – a quotation will be provided prior to carrying out the work. This cost can often be recovered through the customer's own insurance. We do not extend the warranty on replaced glass beyond the original guarantee period.
Glass units can occasionally without warning through natural occurrences, such as temperature changes, cause Thermal Stress Cracking in Laminated glass and Nickle Sulphide Inclusion causing spontaneous breakage of toughened glass. This is not covered within our warranty.
3. Ten-year warranty – components only
The components used in the manufacture and installation of our roofs and frames are covered by a ten-year warranty (apart from items covered in section 2 above). Items supplied as complete products by other manufacturers – such as electric vent openers, temperature controllers, rain sensors, etc. – carry the suppliers' (not Tuck's Wood's) guarantees. Whether we charge for labour for replacing these items is detailed elsewhere in this document.
Notes
- Active date: The warranty period is active from the issue date of our final invoice, and is dependent on all stage payments being settled within our normal terms – as stated on all quotations. In the event that issuing the final invoice is delayed beyond our control, an earlier 'active date' may be advised.
- Some movement can be expected in our installations due to the natural swelling and contracting of all new joinery. However, timber-framed glass roofs are subject to higher than normal fluctuations in temperature, humidity, etc., and are therefore even more susceptible to such movement. We accept no responsibility for re-decorating as a result of the minor opening of joints.
- The customer should observe a twice- or thrice-yearly regime of gutter and downpipe clearance to ensure rainwater drains effectively. Integral box and parapet gutters, in particular, must be checked regularly and kept clear.
- This warranty does not cover the whole or any part of the supporting structure, its materials or finishes.
- We reserve the right to advise if nearby tree roots could in future compromise foundations, thereby voiding our warranty.
- We reserve the right to advise if the condition of the adjacent building could in the future compromise our structure, thereby voiding our warranty.
- We reserve the right to review this warranty in cases where we are constructing our framework off old or existing base-work.
- It is the customer's responsibility to notify us of any change of ownership during the warranty period, and we reserve the right not to assign the warranty to the new owner.
- Our double- or triple-glazed timber-framed roof lanterns are not suitable for use as part of a high-temperature or humid plant house or greenhouse. Such an environment will encourage condensation on the insides of the glazing units, compromising their seals.
- Should we receive a request for a service visit from a customer for a reason that we deem to be due to neglect – such as non-clearance of gutters, poor decoration, etc. – then the call-out will be charged at our prevailing rate plus VAT.
