Roof lantern costs
How much does a timber roof lantern cost?
Every Tuck's Wood roof lantern is built to order, so there's no single price list. The cost depends on the size and design you choose, the glazing and finish, any extras, and whether you want us to install it.
This page explains each of those factors, so you know what drives the price before you ask for a quote.

The main cost factors
1. Size
Larger lanterns need more timber, more glass and more rafters. Our standard models run from 1115 x 1115mm to 3840 x 2205mm, and wider spans may need steel tie-bars.
2. Standard or bespoke
Our 45 standard models are already designed and drawn. A bespoke, made-to-measure lantern is designed from scratch for your opening, and complex shapes that combine several designs take more work.
3. Glazing
Double glazing (U-value 1.2) is standard. Upgrades include improved double glazing (1.0), solar control, opaque, non-fragility and sound-reduction glass, and triple glazing (about 0.8).
4. Colour and finish
White and slate grey are our standard colours. Any other colour can be matched to your specification, and marine-grade aluminium is available for coastal homes.
5. Ventilation
Options range from simple trickle vents to manual or electric opening vents, and thermostatic controls with a rain sensor that close the vents automatically.
6. Decorative extras
Finials, fleur-de-lis ridge cresting, internal bosses, blinds, pelmets and internal cornices all add character, and each adds to the cost.
7. Delivery
Your lantern is crated and delivered as a kit of parts. Where it's going affects the delivery cost, whether that's elsewhere in the UK or overseas.
8. Installation and site access
You can choose supply only, or supply and fit by our own team. Anything that adds time on site adds to the installation cost, most often scaffolding, the height of the roof, parking and how far everything has to be carried from the road. For example, if there's no parking outside the property, our team has to unload everything first, then find somewhere to park, pay for it and walk back before they can start the install. Tell us about access when you ask for a quote, so we can price it accurately.
Why buy direct from the manufacturer?
No middleman
You deal directly with the people who design and build your lantern, with no reseller between you and the workshop.
Answers from the makers
Questions about sizes, glazing or details go straight to the team who'll build it, and every project gets its own dimensioned drawings.
One team, start to finish
Design, manufacture, delivery and installation are all handled by us, backed by our own 10-year warranty on components.
What we need for an accurate quote
The internal size of your opening (please state units), whether you'd like supply only or supply and fit, the property's location, and any photos, sketches or architect's drawings. If we're installing, tell us about access too: parking, the height of the roof and whether scaffolding will be in place. Let us know if you have a style, glazing or colour in mind, but don't worry if you haven't decided yet.
Cost questions
Why don't you publish prices?
Because every lantern is made to order, the price depends on your size, design and options. A quote based on your project is far more useful than a starting price that doesn't apply to you.
Is installation included?
It's your choice. We quote for supply only, or for supply and installation by one of our own teams.
Is the kerb or upstand included?
No. The lead-dressed kerb or upstand is built by your builder before we arrive. See our edge details for what's needed.
How is payment made?
Payments are made in stages, as set out on your quotation.
