Have it your way!

To enhance your Tuck's Wood roof lantern we provide a range of ornamental options and optional extras – from finishes to finials...

Finishes
As standard we apply high-performance microporous paint to the timber and we oven-cure the aluminium cappings with powder-coat paint.  This gives a resilient finish that ensures your lantern is low-maintenance over its lifetime.  There are two standard colours – white or slate grey (click to view) – although non-standard finishes and colours are available.

Vents
Manual or electrically operated opening windows or vents can be provided as options and are recommended on larger roof lanterns.  We even offer vents that are thermostatically controlled and close automatically when it starts to rain.  Regular electric vents are controlled with a conveniently located rocker switch .  Optional trickle vents are also available and are recommended for smaller lanterns.

Bosses
Octagonal bosses are fitted at the convergence of ridge, hip and rafter assemblies, and come in a variety of internal configurations (click to see Internal boss ornamentation) – some designed to take electric light fittings.  All cables, whether for lighting or for electrically operated ventilation, are hidden within the lantern's wooden structure.  Cornice-style pelmets are available to conceal the headrails of blinds (click to see Internal blinds pelmet).

Finials
External finials are the only parts of our roof lanterns to be manufactured in polyurethane (click to view finial options).  They sit at the top of the structure and take heavy weathering, and would simply not be as durable if made of wood.  Traditional fleur-de-lis cresting is also available in powder-coated cast aluminium...

Glazing
All our glass comes from British suppliers (including the raw glass).  As standard we fit high-performance, dual-sealed, self-cleaning, double-glazed units – comprising two leaves of 4mm clear, toughened glass with 16mm argon-filled cavities.  A low-emissivity, heat-reflective coating produces a thermal U-value of 1.2.  Other options can substantially reduce solar gain – in some cases even eliminating the need for blinds.

As optional extras we also supply opaque, non-fragility and sound-reduction glass, plus triple-glazed units.  In fact we are one of the only manufacturers of solid-wood framed roof lanterns in the UK offering triple-glazing – which takes the thermal U-value down to about 0.8.  This represents a further substantial reduction in heat-loss, condensation and noise pollution.

Supply only, or supply and fit
We can supply only, or supply and fit using one of our own experienced installation teams.  For installation, all we require from our customer are a power supply and a safe internal working platform, plus the prior construction of a lead-dressed kerb or upstand to which we will attach the lantern.  The internal dimensions of this structure should correlate exactly with the internal aperture size of the roof lantern, excluding any internal finishes (click to see drawing).
